It’s hard to fathom how magnificent castles were built centuries ago. One group set out to understand just that by building their own masterpiece two hours outside of Paris. Tucked away in a forest, a team of master builders and archaeologists are attempting to construct Guédelon, a castle from the 13th century, using only medieval techniques.
A quote on Youtube:
Wow this is just remarkable, wouldn’t it be wonderful if our lives were lived as they were in those days, with greater simplicity and all ‘organic’ building materials, and hopefully too our numbers as human beings could be smaller, gradually over time, allowing the earth and wildlife to come back. I have always been impressed with the idea that in such times, some people rarely ventured further away from their home than several miles, just enjoying the beauty of quiet life where they lived.
We aren’t too sure about that but one thing that is right – it is amazing to see a castle being built in the 21st century with Medieval techniques!
