It’s about time we saw a decent biopic about the former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
A trailer released a couple of days ago offers the first glimpse of the upcoming biopic “Jackie”, starring the Oscar- winning actress Natalie Portman as president Kennady’s wife.
Natalie Portman looks absolutely gorgeous as Jackie; the demeanour, the hair, the solemn gaze augmented by the actress’ transformed voice and accent, reveal an uncanny resemblance with the iconic first lady.
Rather than the conventional cradle-to-grave biopic, this film by the Chilean director Pablo Larrain focuses on the week after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, from the perspective of his mourning widow.
“People like to believe in fairy tales. Don’t let it be forgot that for one brief, shining moment, there was a Camelot,” Portman says in the trailer. “There won’t be another Camelot. Not another Camelot.” The symbolic notion of “Camelot” plays a major role in the intimate portrayal of Jackie Kenedy.
Jackie premiered last month at the Venice Film Festival and, based on the positive critics, it’s shaping up to be one of the most significant movies of the year.
The film has already collected a couple of awards at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. The internet has gone wild after the trailer release and there are lot of “Oscar talks” regarding the bold performance of Natalie Portman.
Alongside Portman, the movie stars Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, John Hurt, and Billy Crudup. The Chilean director got a lot of attention after the successful 2012 drama “No”, which focused on the campaign against the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
The movie opens in Cinemas on December the 2nd, so if you are a dedicated moviegoer you’d better clean up the schedule and enjoy a searing performance by Natalie Portman in Jackie.
