Yesterday there was a great disturbance in the Force. Millions are paying tribute to Carrie Fisher, the fierce and noble woman who, among other things, embodied our beloved and unforgettable warrior-princess Leia Organa. She passed away, after suffering a major heart attack on Friday.
This year has been particularly cruel, as a number of exceptional people died and left blanks behind them that will never be filled.

Her legacy is timeless. She will forever remain one of the central faces of the Star Wars franchise, the leader of the Resistance and an undying symbol of female pride. Star Wars fans worldwide were left in shock and grief, because Carrie Fisher continued her Star Wars story with the new trilogy currently being filmed, and her death will inevitably influence the future course of the saga.
However, there was a lot more to Carrie Fisher than Star Wars. She was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, and she was just 17 when she landed her first role, that of Lorna Karpf in the satirical romantic comedy Shampoo.
She appeared in a number of acclaimed films, including The Blues Brothers and Austin Powers: The International Man of Mystery. Throughout her career, she was known to show great respect for her fans, and often appeared at conventions where she would give long talks about herself, her role as Princess Leia, and her vision of the Star Wars saga.
She was especially proud of her writing, her creativity shone through her novels and memoirs. Her autobiographical non-fiction books Postcards from the Edge, Wishful Drinking and The Princess Diarist acquired her international literary praise.
Her literary tendencies were praised even in the film industry, as she was deemed one of the best “script doctors”: she was known to notice plot holes and irregularities in film scripts, and provide awesome solutions.
In the Star Wars original theory, it was revealed that Leia was the sister of Luke Skywalker, and potentially another Force-user. She was never shown to use Force in any of the films, but she was as versatile in the films as she was in real life.
She controlled the strategies of the Rebel Alliance and shaped the peace in the galaxy. May you be at peace now in the great infinity beyond the Outer Rim, and may the Force always be with you!
