The Crown’s jewels have been stolen from Yorkshire! Props from the hit Netflix show were taken in an overnight raid in South Yorkshire, where the cast and crew were filming the fifth season of The Crown. The silver lining is that the real Crown Jewels are still safe and sound, locked away in the Tower of London.
Although the real Crown Jewels are safe, the thief reportedly stole props worth up to £150,000 (USD $200,715) from three vans. The stolen props were to be used by Imelda Staunton, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in this upcoming season.
One of the pilfered props was a replica of a rare Fabergé egg. This prop was the replica of the Mosaic Egg that was an Easter gift from Tsar Nicholas II to his wife, Tsarina Alexandra, in 1914. Queen Elizabeth II’s grandfather, King George V, bought this rare Fabergé egg in 1933, most likely as a gift for Queen Mary’s birthday.
Netflix confirmed that props had been stolen, but luckily there shouldn’t be any delay in production. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm the antiques have been stolen and we hope that they are found and returned safely. Replacements will be sourced; there is no expectation that filming will be held up.”
The fifth season of The Crown is set to premiere in November 2022. Imelda Staunton, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming season took the role over from Olivia Colman. Joining Staunton is Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.
Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki took over the role of Princess Diana from Emma Corrin. Photos have already emerged as Debicki as the late Princess, and the resemblance is truly uncanny. It was announced this past August that actor Dominic West is the newest installation of Prince Charles.

One of the primary focal points of the fifth season will be Princess Diana’s sit-down interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, though it is unclear yet if the fifth season will cover her untimely death in 1997. If Diana’s death is not covered in the upcoming fifth season, it will be covered in The Crown‘s sixth (and final) season.
