When the sitcom Taxi first aired on television, it showed a ragtag cast of actors people weren’t really familiar with. However, as the show progressed, audiences came to know and love each of them for their own specific talents, propelling them into successful acting careers. Now, 40 years after the close of the show, cast members reunited in New York to share their memories together.
Taxi lasted for five seasons
Created by James L. Brooks, David Davis, Ed Weinberger, and Stan Daniels, Taxi first aired in 1978. It followed a group of people who worked together on the night shift of a New York City taxi service called the Sunshine Cab Company. The show was a big success, running on ABC for four seasons until it transferred over to NBC for its fifth and final season.
Audiences loved the show, which delved into the lives of this unexpected group of people working as cabbies. Taxi went on to earn 31 Emmy nominations, winning 18 in total. Additionally, several cast members and guest actors on the show earned their own Emmy Awards for their roles, including Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane, Judd Hirsch, Danny DeVito, and Ruth Gordon.
Lloyd and Danza posted photos of the reunion online
It’s now been 40 years since the show came to a close, and to celebrate, members of the old crew got together again. In multiple posts from both Lloyd and Danza, they can be seen sitting alongside Carol Kane and Judd Hirsch, enjoying al fresco dining at a New York restaurant.
On Lloyd’s Instagram, he posted several photos of the group enjoying the afternoon together, captioning the carousel with, “What the hell is going on here?” Danza chose to post his photo to his Twitter account, captioning the photo with, “Love these people so much!” Fans were excited to see the reunion, posting comments like, “I bet people walking by are going nuts with happy memories,” and “How awesome is this!!!!!”
Several members of the show became big stars
Many of the actors involved with Taxi went on to have successful television and film careers in Hollywood. Lloyd went on to star in many films, most notably adopting the character of Dr. Emmett Brown, better known as “Doc,” from the Back to the Future franchise. DeVito also went on to be cast in some pretty big roles, including films like Twins (1988) and Matilda (1996), as well as the long-running sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Kane, Danza, and Henner all saw success on other television shows throughout the years, while Andy Kaufman went on to have a notable career in comedy. He was best known for his eccentric stand-up style, but sadly, Kaufman died in 1984 from lung cancer. He was only 35 years old.

The cast’s reunion sparked rumors that a reboot could be in the future, but there is no evidence (yet) to support that any such project is happening. This is something we’d absolutely tune in to watch!
