Daisy Jones & The Six, released in March 2023, stars Riley Keough and Sam Claflin as the lead singer/songwriters of a 1970s rock band. It documents the rise of the fictional group, along with the drama that’s interwoven throughout their personal lives.
While the miniseries has been well-received by audiences, it received arguably its highest praise from Stevie Nicks, best known for being a member of Fleetwood Mac. Nicks revealed shortly after the show’s release that she wished Christine McVie was around to watch it, and she recently spoke about how she doesn’t see Fleetwood Mac continuing without the late musician.
Daisy Jones & The Six is based on the experiences of Fleetwood Mac
Daisy Jones & The Six is an Amazon Prime Video miniseries based on the New York Times bestselling book by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Reid stated that, while writing the novel, she took inspiration from Fleetwood Mac.
“I started with the germ of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac,” she explained in a 2019 interview with Penguin Books UK. “I’d always been fascinated by them ever since I was a kid.”
Reid said the tumultuous relationship between Nicks and Buckingham was influential in creating the storyline of the book. When it was signed to become a miniseries, the remaining members of Fleetwood Mac gave their permission for the producers to use their song, “Gold Dust Woman.” The song is played at a pivotal point in Daisy Jones, illustrating just how important the band’s influence was to the show’s creation.
Daisy Jones & The Six has received praise from critics
Critics across the board gave Daisy Jones & The Six “generally favorable reviews.” When it came time for awards season, the miniseries racked up a whopping nine Emmy nominations – Riley Keough even received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Critic Nina Metz of the Chicago Tribune wrote of the show, “Musically, Keough and Claflin are a good match. She has a strong, clear voice that bolsters their harmonies, but he can hold his own too, and they’re credible as performers. […] She looks at home on stage and finds a way to channel some of Nicks’ physicality and flowy-wispy stagewear without mimicking her outright.”
With all of the buzz surrounding the miniseries, we’d be shocked if it didn’t continue for a second season.
Stevie Nicks wishes Christine McVie could’ve seen the miniseries
Considering how important Fleetwood Mac was to the story, it must be a big honor for Taylor Jenkins Reid to have Stevie Nicks praise the miniseries. On Instagram, the musician shared a photo from Daisy Jones & The Six and discussed how it affected her, and, more specifically, Riley Keough‘s impact.
“Just finished watching Daisy Jones + the 6 for the 2nd time,” Nicks wrote. “In the beginning, it wasn’t really my story, but Riley seamlessly, soon became my story. It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story. It was very emotional for me.”
One thing she wishes is that her late band member and friend, Christine McVie, was alive to watch it. “I just wish Christine could have seen it. She would have loved it,” she wrote, before concluding that she’s hopeful the miniseries will have more seasons.
Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie?
In an October 2023 interview with Vulture, Stevie Nicks discussed Christine McVie and the future of Fleetwood Mac. When asked about whether she could see the band performing without the late musician, she revealed that it’s very likely they’ll never embark on another tour.
“When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her. You just can’t,” Nicks said to Vulture. “Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my best friend that I spent more time with than any of my other best friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend.”
She added, “When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to.”

Nicks also discussed how McVie’s songs stood out among their catalogue, saying, “And her songs, you take out all of those songs. Christine was a pop star. She wrote all those really super pop hits. None of the rest of us could write those songs. What would happen is we’d have to take the songs out, like we did when she actually retired for 18 years. We couldn’t re-create those songs. So we became a much more hard-rock band.”
