There are actors who you always associate with one another: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The latter pair are some of Hollywood’s most famous film actors, having decades of major projects under their belts, including 1997’s Titanic. DiCaprio recently spoke at a screening for Winslet’s latest movie, Lee (2024), during which he praised his former co-star for her talent and integrity.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet first came together for the filming of James Cameron‘s Titanic. DiCaprio portrayed Jack Dawson, a poor American orphan who won tickets for the ocean liner’s maiden voyage in a poker game, while Winslet took on Rose DeWitt Bukater, a teenager who’s forced into a marriage to retain her family’s high-class status after her father’s passing.

Titanic immediately became a smash hit upon its release, winning 11 Oscars out of 14 nominations at the 70th Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. It also thrust Winslet and DiCaprio into the spotlight, with the pair remaining life-long friends after filming wrapped.

Over a decade after Titanic, DiCaprio and Winslet reunited for the 2008 romantic drama, Revolutionary Road. It received generally positive reviews, with a box office haul of $79.6 million against a $45 million budget.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet recently came together for a screening of the latter’s new film, Lee. Adapted from the book, The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose, it follows American war correspondent Elizabeth “Lee” Miller as she documents the Second World War for Condé Nast Publications.

Among the events Miller covered during the conflict were the aftermath of the D-Day landings, the first use of napalm at St. Malo and the liberation of Paris, France. She also bore witness to the inhumane treatment those held at Buchenwald and Dachau faced.

Winslet had long wanted to adapt Miller’s story for the silver screen, with the actress teaming up with Ellen Kuras to make the project a reality. “Lee was a woman who lived her life on her terms,” Winslet told Vogue in 2023. “I wanted to tell the story of a flawed middle-aged woman who went to war and documented it.”

Filming took place in September 2022 and, following a brief delay after Winslet suffered an on-set injury, was completed that December. Lee premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023 and debuted in theaters a year later.

While introducing Kate Winslet to those attending the Lee screening at the Harmony Gold Theater, Leonardo DiCaprio praised his former co-star, saying she “has dedicated herself to the film and to honoring Lee’s legacy for over the course on nine years. I remember her speaking about this to me personally.

“This has been a massive passion project for her, and it’s a journey that speaks to the depth of Kate’s passion and her dedication to telling stories that need to be remembered,” he continued.

DiCaprio continued to praise Winslet, bringing her to tears with his words.

“Kate, my dear friend, your work in this film has been nothing short of amazing,” he said. “I continue to be awestruck, I continue to admire your strength, your integrity, your talent and your passion for every single project you create.” He then went on to call Winslet “one of the great talents of my generation.”
