It’s hard to think anyone could mistake legendary actor Richard Gere for anyone other than himself. Best known for his roles in Pretty Woman (1990), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) and American Gigolo (1980), Gere has more than cemented himself as a talented and celebrated actor whose name is known around the globe.
This is why it’s hilarious that his wife, Alejandra Silva, had no clue who he was when they first met.
Alejandra Silva actually knew who Richard Gere was
It was while speaking with Elle Spain that Richard Gere joked that his wife “had no idea” who he was when they first met. “None,” he said. “She didn’t see movies, which was great. I was very happy about that.”
Alejandra Silva then interrupted him to correct the statement, saying, “No, wait a minute. Richard, I knew who you were.” She was familiar with Gere, but admitted she just hadn’t seen many of his films. “She thought I was George Clooney, but other than that, she knew exactly who I was,” the actor joked.
Earlier in the interview, Silva explained that it was 2014’s Time Out of Mind, featuring Gere as the lead actor, that made her fall in love with him. “He’s so sexy there,” she said.
The pair had an intimate marriage ceremony
Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva met back in 2015, and they must have really hit it off – just three years later, they tied the knot in a secret ceremony. In February 2019, they welcomed their first child together, with their second, James, born the next April.
They have a beautiful blended family of six, as Gere is also the father to Homer, whom he shares with ex-wife Carey Lowell. Following their wedding, he also became stepfather to Silva’s son, Albert, from a previous marriage.
Richard Gere loves this part of his life
Richard Gere has been married three times. His first marriage was to supermodel Cindy Crawford, with whom there was a 17-year age gap. They eloped in 1991, much to the public’s surprise, but the flame eventually went out and they divorced in 1995.
Gere married his second wife, Carey Lowell, in 2002, and they remained together for almost 15 years, until she filed for divorce in 2016.

Now, Gere says he feels this chapter of his life is “the top of the top,” and he has nothing but praise for his family. “I love my wife. She’s incredible, a great mother. The kids are healthy, happy. Of course, there’s nothing more than that,” he said.
